East
Meets West Foundation
New Moon Foundation has contracted with
the private not-for-profit and non-governmental organization,
East Meets West Foundation, to fund a feasibility report and initial costs
for a Peace and Prosperity Park in Vietnam. This project will engage
a close collaboration with the Vietnam Veteran Associations, the
Vietnamese American communities in the US, international Buddhist
organizations and the community of Hue, Vietnam. The project involves
healing the land in a place torn by war; offers a place for healing,
reflection and meditation; and provides a sustainable economic development
program to benefit impoverished residents in the area.
In 2006, plans began for the creation of the
New Moon Ecological Garden, or "Vuan Trang Sinh Thai."
This portion of the project is intended to help reduce the suffering
in the area due to the dire consequense of unplanned urbanization.
New Moon Foundation's funding will be utilized to create an infrastructure
and landscaping that will: 1) demonstrate the economic value of
rejuvenating the land; 2) promote a healthy lifestyle through maximizing
the potential of organically grown produce and products; 3) promote
the value of education; and 4) allow people to practice traditional
crafts.
The overall objective of the New Moon Ecological
Garden is to demonstrate the benefits of organic farming, land rejuvenation
and education; and to promote youth scholarships. As the beautification
and uniqueness of this park will attract tourists, the garden is
intended to additionally increase earning opportunities and create
conditions that support healing encounters for the community and
visitors.
