Moon Foundation Core Ideology & Areas of Focus
MISSION
New Moon Foundation is a values-based organization and our mission is to provide experiences and programs that teach and support the practice of the core values which, when lived, create “Right Relationship” with self, others, and the natural world.
CORE VALUES
- Gratitude – A deep appreciation of life in all forms, valuing both its gifts and lessons. This is the foundation for finding joy in our human condition.
- Respect - The practice of awareness and openness to others, new ideas and different perspectives. Respect is the basis for peace and understanding.
- Accountability - Taking responsibility for our actions, thoughts and emotions. Acknowledging our choices and their consequences empowers us to choose again.
- Courage - The discipline to be authentic, honest and act with integrity. Courage allows us to grow and realize our true potential and dreams.
- Engagement – The intention to wholeheartedly contribute our gifts and skills in a way that benefits our communities and natural environments. This is a natural outcome and test of a values-based life.
REASON FOR THE ABOVE MISSION
We deeply believe that if we individually make a sincere effort to practice the core values and support each other in this practice, we all will become happier with our lives, enjoy a more caring and peaceful world and leave a more sustainable natural environment to our children.
2. We also believe that there is an urgent need to cultivate wholesome values in our world and especially in our children as it appears that, in general, our current social and work environments, family and school systems are not doing an adequate job at this, leading to practices and approaches that are detrimental to our environment and disempowering to many of us.
VISION
New Moon Foundation endeavors to be an excellent experiential values-based education center where:
- Our students recognize and achieve their passion, gifts and potential.
- Effective personal, academic and real life skills are developed. This includes linguistics, math, sciences, history, culture, music, arts, natural environment stewardship, servant-leadership, service, conflict resolution, awareness, sports and mental disciplines (martial arts, hula, etc.).
- Values-based living grounded in the practice of Gratitude, Respect, Accountability, Courage and Engagement is modeled and taught, supporting the development of an inner compass that will guide our students’ decisions and actions and inspire them to joyfully contribute in ways that benefit others.
- Students of diverse economic, religious, cultural and racial backgrounds who are committed to the practice of our cored values and to “Make a Difference” are invited to our programs.
- Our ultimate outcome will be adults who practice Right Relationship (values-based living), who have developed their skills and passions, are confident to pursue their dreams to live a meaningful life, while also joyfully giving back to benefit others. Those who attend our programs consistently will collectively have a significant positive impact in addressing key challenges, often becoming positive role models, peace/goodwill ambassadors and servant-leaders.
- Our core values will be modeled and woven into all our programs, relationships and interactions, offering a joyful, transformative and “giving is receiving” experience to all participants.
- Our facilities, land and other resources will be dedicated to providing a living classroom for our programs and will be a model of sustainability.
- Our programs will happen through collaborative partnering with parents, educational experts, community organizations, businesses, talented specialists and other stakeholders, and promote self, family, social, environmental and organizational sustainability.
- Our financial sustainability will be achieved through the support of stakeholders including students, their families and communities, other participants, foundations, organizations, employers and others.

How will NMF define and measure our success?
We realize that, because our mission is to promote a set of core values through programs and experiences, it would be challenging to set measurable and quantitative goals. However, we will attempt to measure our success by:
- monitoring our performance in optimizing our own resources and mobilizing community resources to fulfill our mission and vision, and
- measuring the resulting contribution to our social and natural environments, whenever possible.
